Daniel Wäjersten rolls on and his stable has a winning percentage of 28 this year and has soon surpassed SEK 7 million in earnings.
He has many interesting starters during the upcoming Elitlopp weekend and on Wednesday, he warms up with a hot duo in V86 at home at Bergsåker.
"Global Badman is in great form and races well on all distances. I think he will get to the lead eventually, and he should have a good chance to win," says the second trainer Oskar Florhed.
Daniel Wäjersten is second in the trainer standings in the entire country behind Johan Untersteiner. So far this year, the stable has won 64 races and is about to surpass SEK 7 million in earnings. That number should increase further during the week, even more so this upcoming Elitlopp weekend where Wäjersten has several interesting starters on Saturday, and on Sunday he starts Borups Victory in Elitloppet. You can read more about these horses in upcoming articles this week since this is supposed to focus on V86 this Wednesday, a warm-up night for Wäjersten. Bergsåker and Jägersro co-host this V86 card that once again is boosted by a jackpot. This week there is SEK 17 million in the pool for all eight winners picked and even if Wäjersten only has two starters in V86, it looks like he could be in the spotlight in the fifth leg. He sends out two horses in good form; Night Art and Global Badman. The second trainer Oskar Florhed knows all about them, and even if he doesn't promise a win, like he almost did with Kingslayer Pellini a few weeks ago, he thinks one of them should have a great chance to win.
"3 Night Art (V86-5) has raced well and been consistent for us and last time out he was very good when he trotted 1:10 the last kilometer off a slow first kilometer. He sat last and they all sprinted home in the race won by Joviality. He was just as good as the start before when he won and he feels great. Long distance now, and for his previous trainer his morale went down a bit in long-distance races, but I don't think it will for us. He was lazy and uninspired earlier but he's not anymore. On the other hand, he might need a few more nice trips, he doesn't like to do too much of the hard work himself. He likes following horses and he will race in an American sulky for the first time. It might not be a huge difference since the race is over 2,600 meters, but I don't think it will make him worse. We like the horse and he will race barefoot upfront again," says Oskar Florhed about Night Art, who will be driven by Mats E Djuse.
"In great shape now – our best chance"
In the same race, stablemate Global Badman will be the favorite from post position eight, with trainer Daniel Wäjersten in the sulky. After his win two starts ago, he raced great in his most recent start, finishing second in 1:10.7/1,640 behind Daniel Redén's Gamin Jaba.
"8 Global Badman (V86-5) is in great shape now, he really is in top form. He feels great in training and even if he drew the outside post here, you can pretty much drive him any way you want. He can leave fast if the driver wants to do that and he races well over all distances. Despite a bad post position, I think things will work out over 2,600 meters. Night Art can't leave as fast but Badman can, and I think he might be able to get to the lead eventually. I think he should have a good chance to win and he has the best chance to win of our two starters in this race. No changes, he races barefoot all around in a regular style sulky again," says Oskar Florhed.
