What can Jasmine Ising do against Timo Nurmos on Wednesday?
The Romme-licensed trainer races the most special horse in her stable Bravo Vincero on V86® and they are facing the Solvalla trainer's speedy horse Mellby Knekt.
"The funny thing with Bravo Vincero is that he really doesn’t train like a good horse, but he gets his act together when he races" says Ising.
One of the legs in Solvallaserien on Wednesday is for horses who have earned from SEK 50,000 to 150,000.
The winner of the race (V86-4) gets SEK 80,000, and Timo Nurmos trains the favorite. Jorma Kontio drives the 4-year-old 8 Mellby Knekt who is undefeated when he stays trotting, after two wins in three starts.
On the minus side for Mellby Knekt is post position eight behind the gate.
The Romme trainer, Jasmine Ising has a better post position with her horse. 4 Bravo Vincero has shown that he can leave the gate fast and from post four, driver Ulf Ohlsson could get to the lead.
The 4-year-old from Romme got caught in a fast speed duel out of the gate back in the summer, when he easily trotted at 1:09 speed for the first 500 meters.
"He is very quick out of the gate and if he could make it to the lead in this 1,600-meter race, I'd love to see him raced there. We are coming to Solvalla to race him and it will be interesting to see what Ulf Ohlsson does. I let the drivers decide the tactics. Our horse is good, even if it was hard to believe before he started racing. I can only hope that Bravo Vincero keeps racing at a high level" says Jasmine Ising, who has her professional license at Romme, and her farm just a few hundred meters from the racetrack.
Unexpectedly good
Bravo Vincero has four wins in nine starts and he is the winningest 4-year-old in the region of Dalarna this year.
An unexpected result.
The horse has always been uninspired in training. To trot just for the sake of trotting is not fun for him at all.
"Anybody who is not around him can understand how special he is" says Ising with a laugh.
Bravo Vincero is rateable and can handle most trips in a race. A true racehorse who rises to the occasion and delivers on the track.
"He doesn't train like a good horse – he does what he has to do and that's it. We didn't know what would happen when he started racing, we just entered him and thought that we would see how it goes" says Jasmine Ising, who runs the small stable together with her boyfriend Patrik Fernlund.
Clears better in the American sulky
Bravo Vincero won three of his first five starts and looked good. In May he was given a break to train over the summer.
According to Jasmine Ising, the horse has improved immensely in four starts, following that break.
"He has started racing in an American sulky and it helps him a lot. He clears and can stride out better in it. He will race in it again on Wednesday. We have not decided about his shoes yet, though. If the track is good, we might race him barefoot behind this time. He should get better gaited that way, sometimes he gets rough gaited late".
Last time out, he made a break on the backside and was disqualified, he has never behaved like that before. What happened?
"I really don't know what happened. He is usually very lazy, but he suddenly started pulling in that race. We just view it as an accidental break. He trained last Thursday before we entered him to Solvalla and everything was well with him. He seemed as good as he can be in training. He really doesn't think training is a lot of fun" says Ising.
What does his future look like?
"We are planning on racing him on V75 this winter. I usually say that he is a horse that keeps surprising. He is very quick out of the gate, as I said, but maybe someone else in the race is, too? If he can't reach the lead, it wouldn't be too bad to get some cover either. Except for his very first start, he has never wanted to get up on a helmet in a race. It could be good for him to get a nice covered up trip too, when he's in a bit tougher. But I'd like to see him in the lead, of course!"
Timo Nurmos starts 8 Mellby Knekt who has been impressive, and Svante Ericsson has 3 Emothi in the race, who is also ranked up there. What do you think about your horse's chances?
"It feels like this is tougher than what he is used to, but we are coming to race him. He has not been emptied yet, at least not in the races he has won. I don't know how good of a horse he really is".
