Don Fanucci Zet has not raced since last year's Elitlopp.
This Wednesday, he makes a much-anticipated return in V86 at Solvalla.
"He will race into shape, give him a month and he will be slimmed down," says Daniel Redén.
The 8-year-old Don Fanucci Zet has a solid resumé. As a 4-year-old, he won the Sprint Championship and finished second in the Swedish Trotting Derby. The year after, he won Elitloppet and has many heavy titles in Sweden at age five and six.
Last year, Don Fanucci Zet started his season in France by finishing sixth in the Prix d'Amerique and fifth in the Prix de France. His season ended after Elitloppet where he finished fifth in his elimination, after making a break.
"He got very sick after Elitloppet. He was coughing a lot after that race and all his legs swelled up; it took him three, or four months to get better. But he has trained for a while now and he feels like the "old" Fanucci again. It feels super exciting going into this season, considering that last season didn't turn into much, even if he was fifth and sixth in the biggest races in Paris," said Daniel Redén in an interview a month ago.
This Wednesday, Don Fanucci Zet makes his first start in over ten months. He does it in Nuncio's Race, V86-8, and starts from post eight.
"He carries some extra weight right now, as it should be when he hasn't raced in almost a year. We'll see. He will race into shape, so give him a month and he will be slimmed down. We're going to get him back into racing now and he will have to show us that he wants to race at the same level he's been at before. At home, he feels like he did when he was young," said Redén at Romme last Saturday.
Don Fanucci Zet has won 23 out of 43 lifetime starts and has made over SEK 14 million.
