15 wins in 24 starts. Still, Giantissimo is a ghost for the bettors.
"He is to me too. If he stays flat, he always has a good chance to win" says trainer Morten Juul.
V75® Winter Burst makes a stop in Denmark on Thursday, in Aalborg to be more exact and the betting card offers some goodies.
Morten Juul is a trainer at Skive racetrack and is welcoming the popular betting form to Denmark once again. The Danish purses are low compared to the Swedish ones and now they get a nice bump up.
"We are in a bit of economic recession here in Denmark too, but we are used to that in the trotting business. We are struggling with low purses and hoping that it will get better but so far nothing happens" says Morten.
He is stabled just outside Skive and is among the most successful trainers and he brings two horses to Aalborg. One of them is the charismatic 9 Giantissimo (V75-7) who has won 15 races in 24 starts.
"He is a very capable horse. He has both strength and speed in his big body and he rarely gets tired. When he came to our stable he was a bit nervous and had made some breaks, but he had also shown a lot of speed and talent. He started by winning nine races in a row for us from every possible position. He is still not completely safe and he has made breaks in several starts".
Feels great
In his last start, Giantissimo was not good at all. How come?
"He was just bad. We had to take him to the veterinarian and get him treated. He got to rest for a bit and he seems to have benefitted from that":
How does he train after that?
"He feels great again and he is usually good after a little break".
How optimistic are you?
"I always have faith in this horse. I would have preferred a post position in the first tier, but it could have been worse too. I hope they will set a good pace so that he gets the chance. He is left out to what the others do. I have no doubt that he is good enough to win it".
You have another starter on the card, 5 Frosty Ice in V75-5, how good is he?
"He was not at his best last time out and he has also been to the veterinarian. He feels good again and in the two starts prior he was really good. He can leave OK without being super fast. I have to try to find a spot and give him a trip. I think the race looks pretty tough and Frosty Ice could maybe be top three at best. I would be surprised if he wins".
Do you have any winner on the card for the Swedish bettors?
"No, I guess I don't. Build the ticket around Flemming Jensen, he has several good chances on paper and I'm sure his horses are ready for this race day".
