On Saturday, David Persson makes the trip to Romme racetrack with a trio in good form.
"I hope we can take the first V75® win of the year. All my three horses can win".
David Persson is one of Sweden's most successful amateur trainers. The stable is off to a strong start of the year with wins in every fourth start.
"I am pleased with the results so far. I think we're doing a good job with pretty limited resources" says David Persson.
So far, he is an amateur trainer, but it is only a matter of time before he can put professional trainer on his business card.
"The plan is for me to finish the trainer's school this year and get my professional license. I was ready to do it last year, but it required me to take a day off, which I couldn't, and it was annoying but it was a rule they had to abide by so I hope I can get it done this year instead".
All three can win
On Saturday, David Persson makes the trip to Romme and V75® with three horses in splendid form.
"I think all three have a chance to win, they are in good form now. I am looking forward to Saturday and it would be nice to get a win on V75, it's a good way to showcase yourself in this sport".
First to race is 1 Sandokan (V75-2) who last raced in Margaretas Tidiga Unghästserie and finished a solid third.
"He was locked in and never got the chance. It looked like he would have won, had he just gotten out and the driver said the same thing. I was very pleased with my horse and he got a tough start to the race so it was strong of him to race as well as he did against good horses".
How has he felt after that start?
"Good. He hasn't made that many starts and is constantly developing".
Your thoughts on the race this Saturday?
"The post position is a bit tricky for him. Sandokan has shown that he can leave pretty well and he will try to hold up the lead, that's plan A but it's hard to say if he can. If that doesn't work, he is dependent on what the others do. If things work out he should have a pretty good chance to win. The long distance suits him well and this field is no tougher than in his last start".
David Persson is not completely satisfied with how the draw came out for 4 Global Diplomacy (V75-6).
"No, there is a risk of her making a break. She was not even close to staying flat from post five in volt start, so it's definitely worrying me".
What is her status?
"I would say very good. She raced super at Färjestad three starts ago after an early break and after that start, she has gotten better and has raced really well in two starts. Last time out, she couldn't have finished any better than fourth, the way the race unfolded".
If she stays flat, how high are your expectations?
"Then I think she has a chance to win. She feels great in training and the race looks open and she is no worse than any other mare in there".
Probable bridle change
Last one out is 3 Dynamite Sensation (V75-7) who made a break as the betting favorite in his last start, on V75.
"That was a bit surprising I have to say, both for me and the driver. It was a bummer of course, and I hope we can get revenge for that going forward".
How does he handle these conditions?
"Since they start behind the gate this time, the risk of him making a break again is minimal, and I think the short distance is a small advantage for him".
How fast can he leave?
"He has never really left all he can and he also hasn't been in as good form as he is in now. I think he can leave pretty fast and the driver has to give it a serious try. Dynamite Sensation will go back to racing in an Amercian sulky again, which is an advantage for him. I really would like to try him with an open-eye blind bridle this time and I will talk to the driver before I decide".
How do you like his chances?
"I think he needs to be considered early and his chances are equal to Sandokan's".
