V75®: "No doubt he can win again"
He was very impressive when he won on V75 in his last start.
The competent trainer David Persson has presented another winner in Oxidizer.
Despite stepping up one class and making his debut in the bronze division David believs in his horse again.
"If the horse gets a good trip there's no doubt he can win again. I wouldn't go that far if I didn't belive in him".
The Axevalla licensed trainer is a comitted and successful amateur with 14 horses in his care. He keeps a high win percentage and he is stabled at the big training center Bjertorp in Kvänum, 30 kilometers from Axevalla racetrack. David works full time with his horses but still has a 30 percent employment at his regular day job, a mechanical workshop. Last year Vagabond Bi was very successful for trainer Persson. His earnings reached SEK 1.3 million and he won three times on V75 and also won the Walter Lundberg Memorial at Solvalla. David bought the horse from Italy together with handball players Johan Sjöstrand and Magnus Jernemyr. After a troublesome beginning the penny finally dropped and Vagabond Bi started his successful journey.
"Incredibly good in his last start - his best race ever"
But David Persson does not only have Vagabond Bi in his stable. Last summer Oxidizer arrived from Germany. The horse had won a few races in his native country and David has developed him further. Oxidizer has progressed significantly and has won half of his starts in Sweden and he was very impressive when he won on V75 in hs last start.
"5 Oxidizer (V75-7) was incredibly good in his last start and I would say that's his best race ever. Sure, the driver saved some ground passing the horses on the inside but after that he had to it the hard way outside the leader the last kilometer. He fought gamely all the way to the wire in a great way and made a great impression" says David Persson.
"He has really found the top form now and he just keeps progressing. Two starts ago he won easily and the start before that he got a tough trip on V75. The driver told me after the race that had he just stayed in the pocket he probably would have ended up on the photo".
How would you describe Oxidizer as a horse?
"He's a winner. You can say that since he has more wins than seconds. He's a very nice trotter and he does it so easily. He can move fast and he covers a lot of ground. He also has a great attitude and he is completely safe, he has never made a break for me, knock on wood" David says.
"I felt that he was extraordinary"
How did you find the horse and how were you able to buy him?
"He came to Bjertorp last year and was for sale. I test drove him and did some research and looked up his race replays and what he had done. I felt that he was extraordinary and the owners are new clients of mine".
"He wasn't much to look and not very strong when I first got him but he has really benfitted from the training out here. Once he started racing he was much stronger".
How does Oxidizer feel after his most recent start?
"He feels great. Frida, his caretaker is the one who usually sits behind him in training and she is very happy with him".
"Takes a big step up in class"
On Saturday a new V75 start awaits the six year old gelding, this time at Romme in Borlänge. Oxidizer debuts in the bronze division from post position five behind the gate together with driver Ulf Ohlsson. But despite a tougher class trainer Persson is optimistic regarding his horse's chances.
"You have to remember that he takes a big step up in class this time. In his last start he raced against horses who had made upwards SEK 400,000 and this time he's in against horses who have made upwards SEK 900,000. I have a lot of respect for the opponents but on the other hand he looked so good last time, that's why I chose to enter. I do belive in him a lot, or I woudln't go that far to race" says David Persson.
"If the horse gets a good trip there's no doubt he can win again. He can only leave OK and so far it hasn't been enough to take the lead in any of the starts he has made for me. So he probably won't get to lead on his own and I hope he can get a good covered up trip. No changes, he will race the same way he has done lately".
