Janks Morton has shown a lot of talent for his class and isn't Jurista due for a win soon?
Marcus Schön hopes to get a good start to the new year when he makes the trip to race in V75® at Romme with two chances to win.
2023 is in the books and the new year with new possibilities has just opened its door.
A trainer who could get a kick start to 2024 is Marcus Schön. The Solvalla licensed trainer sends two horses to Romme this Saturday, the first V75® card of the year.
3 Janks Morton (V75-3) is an exciting horse to keep an eye on this Saturday.
The son of Nuncio started his career with two straight wins for trainer Stefan Melander but got injured and was away from racing for a long time. But after the now 5-year-old gelding made his first start for his new trainer in November last year, it has been smooth sailing. Three starts have resulted in two wins and a second place.
"He got injured, I guess it's over a year ago now, but he was off for a long time due to that. I don't want to sound too cocky, but if he can stay sound and healthy and train continuously, he feels like a horse who could climb through the classes a bit" says Marcus.
His most recent performance at his home track was impressive.
Janks Morton left his opponents down the stretch to win by open lengths.
"All is well with him after that start and it feels like he's coming out of these starts the right way. It wasn't all that tough of a race in his last start, but it still feels like it bettered his form a bit".
It looked like he had plenty left in his tank when he crossed the finish line?
"Yes, exactly. Magnus Djuse said that he was far from tired and his heart rate was low after the race. So, it was a good race for him".
We have to believe that he has a chance to win again, in this Class 2 leg?
"I don't know the opponents but I saw that Korvenoja (1 Papa Rock eds note) has a horse that looks good on paper, but just judging by his talent, I would say Janks Morton should be good enough for this race. He drew well, but I'm not sure if he can take the lead, he's a big horse and a bit clumsy but he also has pretty good speed. Erik Adielsson is so darn good in volt start, so it's not impossible" says the trainer and hints about an equipment change:
"He might race with a can't-see-back bridle this time. He raced with a blind bridle in his last start and he was a bit too sharp like that".
Winless last year – can she go all the way now?
If we jump forward three races, we find the second V75 starter from the Schön stable.
Another 5-year-old, the mare 15 Jurista (V75-6) qualified for the final of Stochampionatet this past summer, when she was in training with Daniel Wäjersten. She has now made two starts for Marcus Schön and has continued to deliver strong efforts, even if the mare was winless in 2023.
"I think Jurista also has come out of these starts the right way and she raced very well last time out, in the final of Diamantstoet. I had the wrong shoes on her that time, she was digging into the track way too much, so that considered, I think she did very well".
This is another leg of Diamantstoet.
Considering the mare's strong efforts lately, she might be due for a win now in her first start of the new year.
"Yes, I trained her myself last Friday and it felt like she got out of her last well and has taken another step forward. She has gotten two pretty tough trips three deep, in her last two starts so hopefully, she can get a nicer, covered up trip this time".
What do you think of her post position, post six in volt start, with a 20 meter handicap?
"I think it was the best possible post position for her. She will have plenty of time to turn, and Erik can let her trot out of there safely. If she gets a good trip, she should be able to finish top three, at least".
