With eight wins in 13 starts, Fructose is ready for V75®.
"I haven't bottomed her out yet and I think she's a Saturday horse," says trainer Jesper R Nilsson.
The Saturday V75® card does not only offer a jackpot with SEK 44 million to a sole winner. It also offers great races and several top trotters appear in the program.
If Jesper R Nilsson's Fructose is a future top trotter remains to be seen. So far, she is off to a promising start to her career. Fructose has made 13 starts and has won eight of them.
"Yes, her attitude is great. She has many good qualities, but her will to win is top-class," trainer Jesper R Nilsson says.
Fructose ended up at the Nilsson stable last year when Boden had their V75 day. She did not show any of her winning ways in training.
"No, she felt like a regular horse. She just followed along and didn't reveal much and that's how she is on an everyday basis, it's easy to get fooled when sitting behind her".
The start of her racing career did not reveal much either and she made breaks in her first three starts
"She acted greenly and immature and didn't quite understand what to do".
Her maiden win came at the beginning of November last year and after that, things have gone smoothly for Fructose.
"Yes, the penny dropped and she is more or less stable and has done most things right, even if she has made a couple of breaks".
When did you find out that she was not just a regular horse?
"I guess when she won despite getting tough trips and showed her strength and attitude, the drivers also complimented her attitude on the track".
"Haven't bottomed her out yet"
On Saturday, she makes her first V75 start and Jesper R Nilsson is optimistic.
"I haven't bottomed her out yet and I think she should be good enough to race on Saturdays. She has the qualities required. She raced some on ice tracks this past winter and trotted times that make me convinced she'll be good enough".
How does she feel after her most recent start?
"Good, she was treated before that start and was in heat too. I didn't train her especially hard before that start, I aimed for this start and Fructose should be improved with that start in her legs. I trained her last Friday and she felt fantastic".
How about the post position and distance?
"The long distance is good for her. She is strong and tough and can do the hard work herself. I wouldn't have picked post four, had I gotten to choose, but she can handle it. It won't be a quick start; the goal is trying to find a good spot".
She is four years old, any thoughts of racing her in the stake races?
"We will see, we'll take this start first. If it goes as well as we hope, she could race in the finals at Solvalla at the Elitlopp weekend, which would be great. Our big goal is V75 here in Boden in mid-June and I'm tempted to try her in one of the Breeders Crown legs".
