Boden is hosting its traditional Midnight Trot this Saturday and post time for V75 is 20:30. The card is boosted by a jackpot and according to ATG's calculations there will be at least SEK 34 million in the pool for all seven winners picked. Just before 23:00 on Saturday night as the midnight sun hopefully is shining over Boden racetrack, the best horse in Sweden enters the scene. That horse is none other than Francesco Zet who pays Boden a visit and he will be the giant favorite to take home another million in Norrbottens Stora Pris. He had a spectacular season last year, in which he went undefeated in nine starts and won the Swedish Triple Crown; The King's Trophy, The Sprint Championship, and The Swedish Trotting Derby. As if that was not enough, he also took home Breeders Crown for four-year-olds before Redén let his star trotter get some rest and winter training, preparing for his five-year-old campaign. The extraordinary trotter won his seasonal debut in Umeå where Örjan Kihlström was ice-cold and measured the victory in a very fast finish.
"Haven't seen anywhere close to how he is able to leave"
Francesco Zet has 18 wins and one second place in 20 lifetime starts and so far in his career, he has made SEK 15.8 million. Daniel Redén has said that the goal is to race in Prix d'Amerique and that Francesco Zet will make a few starts this summer. He drew the inside post behind the gate in Norrbottens Stora Pris together with Örjan Kihlström. This time, he will race barefoot all around as he has done in the bigger races previously and everything sounds very good from Redén going into the second start of the year.
"1 Francesco Zet (V75-1) drew post one, that's maybe not what we had wished for but I don't think it's a big deal. We haven't seen anywhere close to how he is able to leave if the driver would like to. It will be a test this time from post one. He felt incredible in training today (Monday) and he has trained well after his seasonal debut. This will be his first really long trip, but he spent the night at Jägersro so that is nothing I am worried about. I am pleased with everything, going into this start. He has plenty of foot, so we will race him barefoot behind now instead of trimming him, which means that he will race the same way as in the big races he's been in" says Redén to his website stallzet.se
"Is really on his way into form - very good last time out"
The Solvalla trainer has two more starters on the Boden V75 card. He comments on these two horses as well on his website and shares the following information.
"6 Illfindmywayhome (V75-1) is really on his way into form now, you cannot solely look at his latest results. He raced very well behind Felicia in his last start, the pace was slow and he had to go wide. He closed well in the previous start as well. It has been a few weeks now and he trains great. This is his distance and the post position is good for him. He can trot fast if he has a good day. No changes".
"11 Mahala (V75-6) could not hold up the lead after 100 meters, they were going really fast there. Last time out, she never got going, she doesn't have that quick turn of foot, but she was not tired and she raced well. She has developed nicely this year. The post is what it is, we just hope that things work out, and sometimes they do. She will race the way she did in her last start" says Redén on stallzet.se.
