On Sunday one of the best and most popular trotters of all time will be celebrated at Solvalla.
Nuncio, who himself won Elitloppet 2016 will once again receive the crowd's applauds.
"I know the Solvalla crowd loves Nuncio and it will be an emotional ceremony" says Solvalla's Anders Malmrot in a statement.
Nuncio's career is one of a kind. Ever since he started racing as a two yer old, he's been one of the best. First two years in all the biggest races in the U.S. and as an older horse in all the biggest races in Scandinavia. In 2016 he won Elitloppet and went undefeated that year. But the one race that most describes what a unique horse he was, is a race he didn't win. As a four year old he finished third in Elitloppet after being parked out three wide the entire race. An unbelievable effort!
"I'm incredibly impressed by him as an individual. To have gone through all the tough stakes in the States as a two and three year old and then continuing to deliver in Sweden at the highest level, especially in his Elitlopp starts, aren't many - if anyone - who can do" says Anders Malmrot.
Last winter, Nuncio's owner and trainer Stefan Melander decided that it was time for Nuncio to hang up his shoes. Nuncio then had 42 wins in 63 starts. He finished worse than third only three times and earned a total of SEK 28.6 millions. At 12 noon on Sunday Nuncio will be back for one last celebration in front of the big Elitlopp crowd.
